Newbury Weekly News Over 80s’ Parcel Fund

I am writing to say a big thank you for being involved in the 2011 Parcel Fund and selling BaxterBears to raise money towards our food parcels.
So many businesses and organisations help us each year which is very much appreciated indeed as without the staunch support of so many people it would not be possible for this truly local parcel fund to come together.
Over two thousand Newbury Weekly News food parcels were distributed on the 9th and 10th December thanks to donations and fundraising which this year brought in £20,000 during the months leading up to Christmas. This meant the food parcels were full of even more goodies than in previous years.
The delivery day went very well thanks to many volunteers from businesses, schools and many more local organizations, such as Rotary Clubs. Between us, we made many local elderly residents on our Newbury Weekly News parcel list very happy indeed, and for some of them the knock on the door and the smiling face bringing them their food parcel on a sunny day in December made their Christmas.

What a lovely surprise I had this morning! A beautiful clear sunny morning; a knock on my door, and a sweet young man delivering my food parcel; wishing me a Merry Christmas with a smile. Now really life is still full of good things isn’t it?
In these dark and dismal times we live, this is a shining light that cheers and warms ones spirit. Thanking you so much.
My husband and I were like a couple of children as we unpacked and discovered so many useful, and acceptable goodies. Thank you is so inadequate for how we feel. How good it is to be thought about in such a kind way.
It was a truly lovely parcel! Am looking forward to having a bowl of steaming hot porridge!!

We very much appreciate all the help we get each year from everyone. Without it both the fundraising and also the distribution of the parcels would be an impossible task.
May I take this opportunity to thank you very much indeed for supporting the Newbury Weekly News Christmas Parcel Fund last year, it is a truly local cause supporting so many people who live so close to us.
